Adolescent Homelessness

As of today our adolescent homelessness is becoming a major problem in the United States. I am going to talk about the causes, the consequences, and the programs that may help them off the streets. So, why do these adolescents become homeless in the first place? Well the meaning of homelessness is a person or individual without a permanent home who may live on the streets, stay in a shelter, mission, single room occupancy facilities, abandoned house or a vehicle or any other unstable or non-permanent situation. The causes of adolescent homelessness are due to family problems, economic problems and residential instability. Many youths run away from home do to physical and sexual abuse or strained relationships and addiction of a family member and parental neglect. About 46 percent of homeless youths have been physical abused and 17 percent were forced into unwanted sexual activity by a family or household member. This is a major problem for our adolescents within their own home but not all the time it is also caused outside of the home by a stranger or a person who disrespect children. Another thing that can cause homelessness is economic problems that their families face or cause them to live on the streets. Families that suffer financial crises have resulted in the lack of affordable housing due to limited employment opportunities with not enough pay or they are not getting medical insurance or inadequate welfare benefits.
