The apostle Paul, in Hebrews chapter 12 verses 1 and 2, uses Jesus as the example of how we should live our lives. He admonishes the reader to run with perseverance the race set before them. Looking deeper into the thoughts of this particular phrase one can surmise that not every race is identical. Each runner with have a different course and be expected to run it at a different pace. Further, some runners will be long distance runners, some will be sprinters, and some will be a combination of the two. Being able to gauge which course has been set before us, together with being able to determine what kind of runner one has been equipped to be, allows us to adhere suitably to the apostle Paul’s instruction. At present, I have concluded that my race is an especially unique one. I would articulate that I am a young female preacher who is gifted to sing and lead along with the aptitude of influence. Arriving at this conclusion has been a tumultuous yet rewarding journey. First hearing the call from God to walk in ministry was unsettling and bewildering. There was no immediate precedent in my family of persons in full-time ministry. While I have been in church for as long as I have memory, being a leader in that capacity was foreign to me. Along with the call into ministry came the requirement similar to Abraham to leave my family and place of origin. Moving across the country to attend seminary was one of the most daunting events of my life thus far. However, I soon understood…
