However, since Wes Moore was involved in crimes during his early years in life, he had trouble resocializing himself back to fit the norms of society rather than the “code of streets”. He didn’t want to go to military school, so he ended up trying to escape multiple times. To on avail, he was caught by Colonel Batt the head of Valley Forge. Colonel Batt changed and influenced Wes Moore, to stay in school and to make him realize that school wasn’t an option. It was a privilege. Colonel Batt’s influence made Wes Moore reform and to resocialize back into society. Wes Moore obtained an achieved status in society since he earned it by going through military school and reforming to make his life and future better. The other Wes Moore, however, dissocialized himself from society. He was considered deviant in the social world. He was surrounded by people, family members, and friends who were involved in drugs, drinking, he continued to commit more consensus crimes, he had financial issues, and did poorly in school which led him to drop out. One of his biggest influences that led him to do these things was his older brother, Tony. Although Tony repeatedly always warned the other Wes to stay away from drugs, Tony himself was doing it and being hypocritical. Wes Moore and other Wes Moore were labeled as deviant due to society’s claim on them. Although Wes Moore was considered a deviant due to him committing crimes and skipping school, society labeled him as a criminal or a truant. Although labeled a criminal and a truant, he was able to finish military school and have his deviant label revoked. The other Wes Moore, however, continued to be deviant because of what society called him – a drug dealer, criminal, or delinquent. Another theory that might be used as a basis to study the book’s topic would be the Rational Choice theory. The individual’s choices are based on the factors that are motivated by self-interest. In both of the Wes Moore’s cases, they base their life choices on based on their interests. For instance, the both made the decisions to commit crimes, skip or drop out of school, and be involved in drugs since it was based on their self-interest at the time. Wes Moore, however, changed his self-interests upon entering and finishing Valley Forge Military School. The other Wes Moore’s decisions, however, didn’t change at all. He continued to make horrible choices which he thought were best for him, but he ended up going to prison for
