Since the research question is ‘What kind of political situation in host countries of modern Summer Olympic Games is reflected by the images of opening ceremonies’, the topic of the research concerns the country’s political condition which can be reflected by holding national and international events such as Olympic Games. There have been various opinions on this topic. According to Bayliss et al (2004), the political environment of the time can be reflected by Olympic Games. Despite the commercial revenue gained from the event, governments have been using Olympic Games as propaganda tools for their regime and national image (Bayliss et al, 2004). Apart from the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the 29th Beijing Olympics is also blamed by protestors because of the property of propaganda (Guardian News and Media, 2011). Besides governments, protestors and terrorists treat Olympic Games as their stage to gather the attention from media and public as well (Bayliss et al, 2004). There have been protests, such as what happened around 2008 to against Beijing held the 29th Olympic because of the dissatisfaction from human rights organizations; there have been terrorisms, the attack during 1972 Munich Olympics can be used as a typical example; there have been boycotts, for instance, several countries including United Kingdom and France refused to participant in the 1936 Berlin Olympics in order to protest the policies of Nazi Germany (Bayliss et al, 2004).…
