Ever since I could remember I wanted to be a nurse. This dream became clear to me when I needed to take care of my mother after she was sick my sophomore year of high school. Seeing her sick and the lack of care she received at the hospital gave me this burning passion to help others; to be the one to make a difference. Nursing is a career that required an extreme level of responsibility. The four nursing meta paradigm concepts we’ve talked about include; person/client, environment, health, and nursing. Without these four essential concepts we (as nurses) could not fulfill the duties that are required of us. Two of my favorite theorists include Florence Nightingale and Hildegard Peplau, these theorists provide me with a deep understanding of the nursing meta paradigms and enable me to conclude my own nursing philosophy. The first concept of the nursing meta paradigm is the person/client. Nursing revolves around this concept of patient centered care. Patient centered care is defined as;
“Identify, respect and care about patients’ differences, values, preferences, and expressed needs; relieve pain and suffering; coordinate continuous care; listen to, clearly inform, communicate with, and educate patients; share decision making and management; and continuously advocate disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of heathy lifestyles, including a focus on population health.” (Finkelman & Kenner, 2010, 50)
