Jim Poole is the current Senior Team Leader in Climate Change at the Natural Resources in Wales. He is also a Professor in School of Engineering at Cardiff University. Many problems and challenges face a modern day engineer in terms of promoting sustainable development. Previously, Jim Poole served as a sewage scientist and a biologist who sought to identify how an engineer can be friendly and promote sustainable processes in the environment. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the aspects of sustainable development (Poole, 2015). Sustainable development is regarded to as the development that meets the needs of the present with no compromise on the ability of future generations to cater for their needs.
The nature of sustainable development is an interplay between different aspects such as the society, the economy, and the environment. Sustainability is an aspect that may be considered as objective or as a process. The concept of sustainability as an objective is also known as the Russian Doll model, which describes the planet earth and material flows. In terms of civilization illustrates the dynamics between social development and environmental development. In this case, the environment, society, and economy develop within the same realm. The explosive economy is a combination of factors such as the concept of money, globalization, accumulation of capital, division of labor as well as international trade (Poole, 2015).
