The Mysteries of Pittsburgh follows Art Bechstein, the narrator of the novel, and the first thing that I was introduced to is Art having lunch with his gangster father who happens to be in town for the weekend in the beginning of his summer vacation. As I continue to read through, I learned that the main character had an unsuccessful relationship with someone by the name of Claire. When Art found a group of people huddled up, there were policemen who were holding down a boy. I thought that this was because of some sort of a fight. He had spent time with his girlfriend and his friend for quite some time, that he started to have affectionate feelings towards Arthur. I myself have nothing against people who are homosexual, but as I stated before, it did make me feel uneasy and discouraged me to continue reading. It was at the point that Art started to come to a conclusion that he might be bisexual, since he indeed have feelings for Phlox and Arthur. Things started to get hairy when Cleveland begins to dig deeper into the city’s organized crime families, which is bringing him closer to certain dangerous mob connections that Art’s father was in. Due to this, his relationships between his family, friends, and lovers started to become a mess, which eventually brought unforeseen and unfortunate
