City of Minneapolis: Committee of the Whole Planning Commission The City of Minneapolis City Planning Commission’s ‘Committee of the Whole’ is a meeting that occurs at Minneapolis City Hall twice per month. The objective of these meetings is to provide a public forum where City staff and project applicants can discuss proposals in an official forum outside of the public hearing process. My particular meeting occurred at 4:30 PM on September 22nd, 2016. The vice president of the Planning Commission chairs the public meeting and leads the nine other commissioners through the meeting agenda. At my meeting, there were only six commissioners in attendance, including the vice president.…
I have also been involved with my Future Business Leaders of America chapter and am the president of the club. Being so helps me give to the community and school by starting fundraisers for the March of Dimes, running cereal drives for the food pantry, and donating time to other organizations. I lead the meetings and discuss with my chapter what they want to do and what imprint they want to leave on our school as a chapter. FBLA has helped me reach out to my community like all of my other leadership roles I play a part…
When I was in student council I took pride in the job I was given. I made sure that I didn’t miss a meeting. In 6th grade, I was elected treasurer. I spent my days counting money, making posters, and helping with other student council activities.…
I also encourage my peers to join CAV Crew while also inspiring many past freshmen in my groups to take on these leadership roles as well. Participating in CAV Crew was one of the best decisions I’ve made in high school. I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years of contribution, and I have gained a greater sense of confidence in myself. I am grateful for these past experiences and helping others to strive and leave a lasting impact at…
One character trait that I find fits me well is realistic. I set my goals high and work hard to reach them, but I also make sure that my goal can be reached. I believe it is worse to fail a goal you set that was too demanding of you than to succeed and keep aspiring higher with time. To be realistic is a significant trait that everyone should own. It allows one to live up to their greatest potential and to constantly improve themselves.…
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. " This quote by President John Quincy Adams helps embody my role as a leader. I strive daily to make others feel as though they are strong enough to be able to accomplish their goals. Being a cheerleader, I fulfill a key role in the leadership of my high school. Peer pressure challenges me on a daily basis to make the right choices.…

Being a student in the Beacon City School district has come with many rewards and exciting opportunities. Coming from a small private, I wasn't sure what to expect walking in on the first day of middle school. But soon the doubtful thoughts were replaced with the warm and inviting greetings from teachers, faculty, and students. Becoming a student member of the Beacon City School District Board of Education is the perfect way for me to give back to this school system in a way that could benefit all.…
The spotlight is in my eyes. The hubbub dies down to an anticipatory, judgmental silence, daring me to break it. I look back, making sure the band is ready. Thumbs up: it’s time to roll. I tap my foot to the rhythm.…
The oldest pair of socks I still own is my Bob the Builder socks. I got for Christmas when I was only four years old. I am more than glad that I still have them because it built up my admiration for socks. Those Bob the Builder socks are my lucky pair of socks. I have probably worn them every year in preparation for a piano recital, school play, benefit show, baseball game, math test, or whatever is thrown my way.…
My week at the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Maryland Girls State program was an eye-opening occasion. I went to Girls State knowing little to nothing about the government in the state of Maryland. I had no interest in running for any type of government office. Girls State was originally just a place to get away from my parents for a week, but once I got there I realized it was so much more. The first day was not a full day because of registration but it felt like it because of all the sessions we were in and the elections for city government.…
Introduction to Law: City Council Assignment I initially sat down to watch the city council meeting with the attention to suffer for the following two hours. I was constantly thinking about why I chose this class as an elective. I am a nursing student and have no interest in politics or business. However, to my surprise, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and was allured into the discussions as they got me rationalizing my thoughts. Listening to the different perspective concerning why some things may benefit and some may not, I had the urge to yell out my opinion on the topics being discussed.…
Dreams are shaped by ideals as families shape the beliefs we grasp strongly. The sacrifices and struggles of my family are what have shaped me to be the person I am today, therefore I have dedicated my path as a first generation Hispanic student to my family. My family and I were born in Guadalajara, Mexico. After three and a half years of living there, my family decided to seek a promising future in The United States.…
Candidates, Troy Henry and Desiree Charbonnet took the prize for this category. Both candidates, had the type of charisma and personality, where you listened to them, and believe them 100%. As Robin Williams, in Dead Poet Society, Troy Henry had a voice. His voice gave him emotions and passion for what he does. Similarly, to Hilary Clinton, Mayoral Candidate, Desiree Charbonnet, is a hardworking woman.…
The first study that implemented this program took place at the Annsville Youth Center, in New York (Goldstein, 4). The study was conducted on 60 youths, in which a small group (24) received the intervention in ART, the second group (24) were given a “brief discussion” this allowed for Goldstein and his colleagues, to see if the children had the skills in them, but were just not using them, and the last group (12) received no intervention or instructions (Goldstein, 4). The goal of the study was to see how effective ART was in the center, “ it looked at skill acquisition, minimal skill transfer, extended skill transfer, anger control enhancement, and impulsive reduction” (Goldstein, 4). At the end of the 10-week study, the children that under…
