People would risk getting ill drinking the dirty water. People died of thirst, because of all those rivers and lakes that didn’t make it through the storm. This affected people in many ways, and animals to. When Dust Bowl conditions devastated farmers, many defaulted on their bank loans, which helped lead to widespread bank failure. (“The Great Depression”) People lost their money and land and people were trapped in their homes.…
The Great Depression definitely made everyone in America suffer, but many question who suffered more; the farmers in the Dust Bowl or the city dwellers, and that just depends on what aspect that you look at. The Dust Bowl farmers had a very rough time through the depression because they had no water, and they had no topsoil to even attempt planting a good crop. Although farmers elsewhere had issues because their crops were not selling for as much, they certainly did not have anywhere near the problems the Dust Bowl farmers did; they could at least make a little money off of it. The Dust Bowl farmers lost so much money, because many would buy and plant seeds expecting that the depression and drought could not possibly last another year. Especially…
The Great Depression was a time for America that was in poverty. US citizens were homeless and jobless. Two long term effects of the Great Depression were the farming situation and bank. Unfortunately, due to the tariff, foreign countries began trading less and less with the United States. Finally, the last factor of the Great Depression is drought conditions. There was an area in Mississippi Valley that was nicknamed “The Dust Bowl.” In this area, a major drought occurred, which killed off crops and smothered livestock. The drought affected the agricultural production, which made the Great Depression even worse. The people that lived in this area had to sell off their farm because they could not pay off their taxes and debt.…
This caused the Great Depression since the cost of everything was down, businesses could not make money. Farmers started to go bankrupt since they had not made any money, and still had too many crops left. Furthermore, because businesses had overproduce, they had to lay off some workers. Notably, it was said in “If Hoover Fails,” by Elmer Davis, “Production slackened, workmen were laid off, until the… surplus was used up” (Document 10). This shows that overproduction was a cause of this depression since it was getting people fired.…
Both events resulted in troubled times for people and workers. People lost their homes, suffered from malnourishment and seemed to be struggling to make it through the day. This book focuses on the problems and results of the Dust Bowl, “the worst man-made ecological disaster in American history”. The Dust Bowl followed The Great Plow-up, which “turned 5.2 million acres of thick native grassland into wheat fields”. Eventually, the United States began to enter into the time of the depression and prices for crops began to sink.…
On October 29, 1929, a disastrous situation happened in the united states and the American stock market crashed abruptly, which people know as “Black Tuesday” (Martin). It caused a lot of problems for the American citizens. Furthermore, the stock market crash was not the only problem during the Great Depression. During the depression, over 9,000 banks failed and droughts caused farmers a lot of problems which caused the depression to start (Martin). Thus, many people struggled just to feed their own families and the livestock if they own a farm.…
This became known as the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was basically an area involving about 5 states in which massive storms of dust, dirt and gravel would blow around and ruin many, many crops. It made daily life way more difficult then it had to be. Farmers were losing their farms due to drop in demand for certain foods including wheat which prices dropped very low and farmers decided to try planting more of it to keep up in income, this led to a loss in money instead of gain. The storms also contributed to the loss of land by not allowing farmers to plant effectively given how the soil was being blown and torn apart.…
