Before I did this project, I didn’t know anything about the hijab and the Islamic culture, so I enjoyed the process of making our book. Since my partner, Lina, had some knowledge about Islamic cultures although she wasn’t Muslim, she was very helpful to complete the story. When I said, “I made a book. Who would you like to read?,” then about 8 children gathered. However, after I read a couple of pages, half of the children left, and only one or two left till the story ended. I asked one girl whose family might have Islamic background (I never asked about it.) if she had known the word “hijab” or her mom might have worn it, but she said no. However, she said, “I have seen those,” when I showed the page of three different styles of hijab. I asked where and when she had seen them, but she didn’t say
