The five functions of the government are to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. Now let’s take a closer look into each of these functions of government. To establish justice ensures that it is the government job to protect the citizens of the United States. One way the government does this is by creating laws and creating punishments for those that do not obey the laws. To insure domestic tranquility mean that it is the government’s job to insure that all citizens are safe from foreign threats and to maintain peace within the United States. To provide for the common defense, it is the government job to provide us with army for protection against any threats that may come our way. To promote the general welfare, it is the government job to support and give the opportunity for citizens to live a healthy prosperous life. An example of how the government does this in our society today is there so many governmental programs designed to assist those that need help such as food stamps, unemployment, affordable housing and so on. As a citizen of the United States, out of the five functions of government, I cannot just pick one function that has the greatest impact on American citizens today, all the functions of governments are equally important. If I was to just choose one function of government that has the greatest impact on me as an American citizen today it would be the function to establish justice. The reason why I think establishing justice has the greatest impact on me to today, is because I feel like it keeps me safe. Imagine a life where there was no laws to protect people, what kind of country would we live in. I feel like this function and the function secure to secure the blessings of liberty allows for me to receive the education I get today. I have the right of freedom of speech and the right to vote, I’m not subject to persecution for my personal beliefs. I have a justice system I feel protects me as a citizen and so on. All the functions of government are important in their own way and have a great impact on American citizens today but establishing justice has the greatest impact on me as a citizen
