Were the colonists justified in their rebellion against Great Britain?

Preamble:
The purpose of government is to protect their citizens by imposing rules and implementing systems to further protect their civil rights and their natural rights (Life and Liberty). Yet, when the government violates either civil or natural rights the citizens have the right to rebel.
