Argumentative Essay: The Role Of Social Promotion In Schools

Social Promotion is a very controversial topic amongst all social classes. Advancement of ones child to the next level should be an accomplishment of the previous grades requirements and not a mandatory movement into the next grade level. This single action teaches students many things about life and one of them is there is no requirement for success, its merely given to anyone that shows up wanting it. There are many underlining reasons behind why a school would or would not promote this educational style but those that promote it in my opinion do not have the best interests of the students in mind. This is a cop out for an education system to hold any kind of a standard. How is the next generation of this country 's leaders supposed to create an "equal opportunity for all" when we set our youth up for a sub par education. Children are shown from the get go that success is handed to them and not earned. There are always problems within a system but taking away the standard isn 't a solution to the problem, its taking away the purpose of the institution as a whole, an institution that is designed to teach and uphold standards. Allowing people to move into the next grade does not prepare them for higher education, jobs, athletic programs or any other activity that would require them to be held accountable for how much they do or don 't apply themselves. This education structure also allows the institution themselves to give the students little to no effort in comparison for what the would give them if students passing that class actually mattered. In my opinion it allows all parties involved to take the easy way out of finding a solution to a failing education system and the only ones that its affecting are the children, the next generation of of leaders for our country and the next problem
