It truly has become a new frontier for missions. Just as the Bible encourages us to “gain understanding,” (Proverbs 1:1-7) – and in a sense, become scientists – we should enter the scientific field with an open mind. We should not come with attacks, dogmas, and presuppositions as if we have all knowledge and understanding. To put it simply, the illusion of knowledge can be harmful and off-putting in this field of missions. However, this is simply not true. As I have proven above, there are many truths that we can discover outside of the Bible. The doctrine of Sola Scriptura was upheld by the early Reformed Church, and it comes mainly from 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” It is understood by the reformed church that the Bible is the ultimate authority in the Christian life.
Some would point to this to discredit science as an authoritative source of truth. However, Sola Scriptura is mostly concerned with Christian morality and salvation of the elect and does not deny science as a source of truth. It all comes back to the fact that all truth is God’s truth.
