There are many things that police officers have done wrong. Police deviance caused by a few people who should not have become police officers and whose feelings toward corruption was not recognized during the recruitment and hiring phases. Police corruption is a major problem in the United States. Some police officers turn bad by ripping off drug dealers and even dealing drugs themselves. Corruption is a bit ore serious but if corruption is for personal gain, then simply accepting a free cup of coffee fits the term. While doing police work, what officers see and how officers act and react to their working environment. Police who engage in deviant activities are faced with psychological and social strains. Mentally, police must be able to justify and change their involvement in deviant activities. Socially, deviant police must also be able to project a following image to the public. The police group cracks down on deviance by providing officers with the beliefs, values, definitions, and oaths necessary to leave from society 's belief of acceptable behavior. It is important that the public accept the response provided by police for their study in deviant activities. One way police prepare the public to accept police wrongdoing is by acting crime as a deepening problem that threatens to take over society. Police may stress or abuse information that show increases in some forms of criminal activity. When police learn of concerns about such things as drug rings and youth gangs, the public is prepared to welcome future acts by police.
