In view of the difficulties faced in conservation, different international parties held measurement to protect the Great White Shark from extinction.
The CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is the most popular international agreement in the world. It is not protecting those endangered species only, but also many wildlife species because it makes sure the sustainable development of the trade in order to safeguard the natural resources for the future generations. It aims to prevent the international trade of animal products which threaten survival of animals. In the CITES, the Great White Shark is categorized in Appendix II. The species in Appendix II are all not necessarily threatened by the extinction but we need to control the international trade that will cause extinction. Therefore, traders need to get the export permit issued by the Management Authority of the State. However, if the population of the Great White Shark is continuously decreasing and threaten by extinction, the CITES will be categorized into the Appendix I, which is for the most endangered species. In this situation, trades are only permitted in exceptional circumstances. In this moment, 181 parties in CITES will maintain the trade record in their nation and each party should prepare periodic reports on its implementation of the convention they did or are going to implement.
