Identify the evidence-based evaluation/screening tool, the specifications for its utilization, and your chosen condition and population. What is the research-based evidence for this item? Being that I work in as an oncology I have seen first hand effects that cancer diagnosis and treatment can impact a patients emotions and well-being. The Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory -3 (SASSI-3) is a psychometric instrument that is designed to make interpretations about a substance dependence disorder (Miller, 1983). SASSI-3 has four-teen face valid items that relate to substance dependence that is divided into items related to alcohol and drugs (Miller, 1983). SASSI also has sixty-even items that have no relationship to substance dependence (Miller, 1983). The face valid items are scored on a four-point scale and in a true or false format. SASSI’s scores match with other scores from the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) and the Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST) (Miller, 1983).…

Introduction Vitamin A deficiency (VAD), the leading cause of preventable blindness in children worldwide, is especially prevalent in India (Chow, Klein & Laxminarayan, 2010). Due to the limited availability of nutritious staple foods in poor and rural areas, India hosts about 35 million children with VAD—the greatest number, and the greatest percentage, of VAD children in the world (ibid). VAD also affects more than 12 percent of pregnant women in India, causing them and many of their children to suffer not only blindness, but also increased mortality and increased vulnerability to infections such as measles and diarrhea (Dawe, Robertson & Unnevehr, 2002). Since the first attempts to genetically modify rice to synthesize vitamin A (also known…
Why are our children not receiving the essential nutrients in order to achieve mental and physical health? Today, in the U.S more children suffer from malnutrition due to dietary imbalances instead of nutritional deficiencies. Malnutrition is known as the condition in which the body is deprived of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are vital for the development of the person’s body in order to maintain healthy tissue and organ function. Not only can it affect people with low incomes but, it can also affect people who make poor choices like relying on fast food services to supplement their dietary needs. Low-income households base their food decisions on the preferences of their children in order to minimize waste and save money; children tend to reject unfamiliar foods causing low income families to not introduce new and potentially more nutritious produce to their offspring.…
