The painting that i chose for the formal analysis is called Her Choice by Diana Moses Botkin, 1996, and it was done on original oil on linen. This painting shows a women in the dark looking to her left, where there is a person offering help by reaching their hand through an opening on the wall. I think this painting means that no matter how bad of a situation or place you are in life there will always be some sort of hope or light at the end of the tunnel. Diana 's Her Choice uses shapes, colors, and figures, which make this painting about religion. Diana Moses uses a shape which is one of the most recognizable shapes in religion which is the cross. Her Choice uses a cross as the most predominant shape in the painting. The first figure of the female trapped in the room is the perfect example to describe the title Her Choice. The woman figure in the painting is painted in a way to show that expression of the title of the painting. She looks tempted to want to reach out and grab the mans hand but at the same time she seems afraid and curious as to who it is. This captures a perfect example of why religion is the subject matter in this painting because religion is viewed as bringing hope to people who are lost and don 't know what to do in life. The second figure in this painting is a man which is on the bright side of the wall and only part of his arm and leg are visible. The way his figure is painted resembles a lot of the visual images people have of Jesus Christ reaching out to help anybody who is going through a tough time.
