The food industry has kept the world in captivity for many years now as people do not realize the multiple changes it has endured, as the film Food, Inc. portrays. From farms to factories and natural grown food production to antibiotic filled mutant food. The illusion that our food is produced on these farms is only an idea and the fact that the only way people even take notice is through a documentary or story shows how alienated many individuals are to the food industry. It is the entrenchment of a powerful group of food producers that sets the conditions under which today’s farmers and food workers operate all in an attempt to gain capital. Cows are not genetically built to digest anything other than grass, so feeding them corn can only lead to negative consequences. The result was the formation of a highly toxic germ titled E. coli 0157-H. Which began to spread very easily, as cows were kept in clean, sanitized places. Cows were cramped inside barns, standing knee high in manure day in and day out. To make matters worse, when they were transported to the slaughterhouse they were not cleaned, so their hides were caked with manure and nearly 400 cows are killed per hour. The ability to stop the spread germs exposure became impossible and soon invaded many other crops, such as tomatoes, spinach, and even apple juice. There was allows the chance of food poisoning, but food is not getting any safer, it is becoming more and more contaminated due to the enormous factories who are just producing food. Ground beef at the local supermarket, may seem to be one cow, but it consist of thousands of different cows, so your chance of contracting the germ is drastically increased. The germ was a different strand that was immune to any attacks, and was attacking people expectantly. A young 2 year old boy had at a hamburger and within 12 withered away. His mother noticed that food companies did not care to stop the production, for they did not even place a recall into 2 week after her son’s death, so she became an advocate to raise awareness. The food industry has attempted to hide the facts of food production, so that there will not be any opposition, so the more awareness there is the more the system is required to changed. The food industry will deliver what the market place demands, so the increased awareness will incite the idea that organic, wholesome food is what the society wants and needs. The consumer is always right, so be a smart shopper. Invest in foods that are in season, organic, and local, while reading the labels on the product to know what the food product contains. The institution of family has changed so greatly, that we rarely ever eat home cooked meals. So make that change and cook a meal for the family and eat together.
