There is no doubt that American waistline sizes are growing at an epidemic rate. You do not need to look far to see how prevalent the health epidemic in America is. Recent studies have shown that seventy-five percent of males and sixty-seven percent of females over the age of 25 are overweight or obese in America(Cha). That means for every four males you can expect three of those four to be fat or obese, if they’re over the age of 25. This plague is getting out of hand! Can you even imagine the number of Americans’ lives that have been reaped by this grim horror? Can you even imagine how many loved ones have been prematurely taken away by the Grim Reaper because of this vile curse?
We need to stop this tragedy from taking the lives of Americans, but how can Americans stop the spread of obesity if they don’t know who is to blame for this monstrous epidemic? We all have some personal responsibility for this dilemma: Our choices of what we eat/don’t eat and our exercising habits all play a crucial role in the shaping of this epidemic. If all Americans exercise more and make more conscious efforts on what they eat, then this epidemic would definitely shrink in size. But what if the entity that is supposed to be protecting Americans, their government, is actually trying to help this epidemic grow?
