The Effects Of Sleep Deprivation On Cognitive, Physical, Emotional, And Social Development
Sleep is critical for memory connecting, learning, decision making, and critical thinking (Harrison & Horne, 2000; Mednick, Nakayama, & Stickgold, 2003). Sleep deprivation may lead to mental illness development (Brooks, Girgenti, & Mills, 2009), and it can also cause health issues such as lack of self-control and insomnia. Lastly sleep deprivation can negatively change your mood and motivation towards academic success.
With help, students can manage their time better and be able to sleep regularly to maintain their wellbeing. SJSU campus resources offer many sites students can visit to aid them with their sleep deprivation and improve their development in all four areas.
