In the words of President Barack Obama “…Science, accumulated and reviewed over decades, tells us that our planet is changing in ways that will have profound impacts on all of humankind…those who are already feeling the effects of climate change don’t have time to deny it—they’re busy dealing with it.” Global warming is already beginning to alter life on Earth with rising sea levels, poor air quality and increasingly severe climate changes. To help slow global warming, the government should set standards such as the Clean Power Plan to help limit the amount of carbon dioxide pollution that power plants release into the air. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, carbon dioxide pollution is the leading factor in global warming. Power plants account for forty percent of U.S. carbon dioxide pollution. NASA indicates that industrial activities have raised the atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and concluded there 's more than a 90 percent probability that human activities over the past 250 years have warmed our planet. Under the Clean Power Plan (the first-ever carbon pollution standards for existing power plants) achievable standards are set by each state to reduce carbon pollution. These standards will decrease the amount of carbon pollution by 32 percent by the year 2030. Some options to reduce pollution for states include stronger fuel economy standards, increasing clean energy, investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency. NASA has already observed that…
