Abuse comes in many forms and unfortunately happens everywhere around the world. The general term abuse affects people of every age from 1 to 101. Abuse happens the most in your life when you 're the most vulnerable and that happens to be when you 're a child and when you 're a senior citizen. The fact of the matter is it does happen and it 's happening as i’m writing this essay. The dictionary definition of abuse is to use wrongly or improperly. 3.6 million referrals are made to child protection agencies a year. A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds. In 2014 state agencies found an estimated 702,00 victims of child maltreatment, this would pack 10 modern football stadiums. In 2013 about 1,520 children died from abuse and neglect

Children are very neglected, this means they are deprived of the basic necessities like food, water and shelter. Schooling, medical care and the protection they need are also things they don 't receive. 62.8% of children suffer from neglect. Some reasons family member may neglect a child is money issues from being a single parent or other extreme reasons. Doctors, nurses and daycare personnel are all responsible for neglecting children as well. The Child Abuse Hotline are available to anyone to use and report if they know a child who is being abused. National Children 's Alliance is also there for victims of abuse. For neglect of the elderly its failure to take care of the elder. This neglect can be intentional or unintentional. Some things to look for is weight loss, malnutrition, dehydration, bedsores, dirty, bugs, soiled bedding, un-bathed elders, unsuitable clothing for weather, humiliation of an elderly in public, and unsafe living conditions like no heat or AC or running water.
