The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, more commonly known as North Korea, is a country founded on September 9th, 1948 after being liberated from the Japanese by the Russians while South Korea was liberated by the United States of America. South Korea took on a Democratic government similar to the US while North Korea took on a Communist government similar to Russia. This caused a serious divide between the countries. Roughly two years later North Korea invaded South Korea with support from Russia and China as an attempt to convert Korea into a full on communist country. This began the Korean War, with the allies of the North and South fighting for land. The war resulted in 2.5 million deaths but a ceasefire was agreed upon in 1953, ending any direct conflict. Ever since then North Korea has been a bit of a thorn in the side of the US and the UN (United Nations). North Korea has backup from China and even in the worst of times the country has somehow swung back up to “livable” conditions. There is also the issue of North Korea testing nuclear weaponry and ignoring many demands by the UN to stop attempting to create ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) to fire at the United States. There are two options besides a full scale war that would benefit neither side, helping North Korea become a productive member of the world or causing the country to cave in on itself, becoming ripe for the taking.
