“ At all levels of blood alcohol concentration(BAC), the risk of being involved in a crash is greater for young people than for older people” ( Shults) “ 1 in 10 teens in high school drinks and drives.” ( CDC) The topic of whether or not the legal drinking age in the US should stay at 21 or go down to 18 has been widely debated. The stats show a clear statement that in order to keep our teens out of danger the legal drinking age in the US should stay at 21 to keep for the well being of our teens physical and mental health.
The topic about the legal drinking age in America has been widely debated among the years. Several studies have been concluded. Some results of recent studies done by respected Professors and Universities have shown some alarming signs. Alcohol has some major effects on the teenage brain. Science has proven that teen brains are in fact not done developing. The brain actually is not fully developed until ages as old as 25. The statistics that have been done on teenage drinking show some alarming effects. First off alcohol is a depressant. This means that it slows down the body 's central nervous system. This causes delayed reactions of up to 30 seconds. With that said it is very dangerous for anyone to consume heavy amounts of alcohol. But as people get older their body will also adapt to get build up a little tolerance for alcohol.
