According to Dr. Mary Harding, in 2013 there were approximately 24,000 stillbirths and neonatal deaths reported in the United States (Harding, para 1). Many people today really don’t have knowledge on stillbirth and neonatal death until they come across it. Stillbirth is death of a baby before and during delivery. Neonatal death is when a baby dies in the first 28 days of life. In many cases the direct cause of the baby’s death can’t be determined. Stillbirth and neonatal death have many causes and effects which can have parents and families feelings sad, shock, and can impact their view on every aspect of life. At the end there are always solutions to help out with avoiding and coping with stillbirth and neonatal death. When it comes to stillbirth and neonatal death, it is important for people to be aware of the causes, the effects, and what can be done to prevent it.
Identifying the causes of stillbirth and neonatal death is very important. According to the Department of Health in Australia, ten percent of stillborn and neonatal death babies have some kind of abnormality. The placenta, having diabetes, and preeclampsia are problems that can come with the mother’s health. When the baby’s blood and food supply isn’t functioning properly this cause complications with the placenta.
