Imagine living your life in constant fear, living in the darkness with dangerous things all around you and constantly been bombed. Now imagine trying to fit in a small hole where you were there is barely any air and you can’t see what is in front of you. Well, this was the life of the Vietnamese and the American troops during the Vietnam war. During the Vietnam war, Vietnamese villagers created thousands of tunnels in order to protect them self from the enemy. This tunnel was located in the Cu Chi district. Therefore, they called these tunnels are called the Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnels had a very stinking smell and some days became so hot that people had to lay on the ground in order for them to breath. It was so dark in the tunnels that when they come up and saw the sunlight, they were temporary blind. They also had all kind of poisoning animals and rodents, like scorpions, ants, and snakes, not to count the limited amount of water and food this person had. Most of the soldier slept or worked during the day and only came out at night to scavenge food, look after their crops they left behind, and to battle the enemies. Do to the heavily bombing and the American troops always been around, sometimes they had to stay in this tunnels for days or even weeks. Now, do not forget the American troops were constantly pumping toxic gasses to the tunnels and they would close up the entrance so not even a little bit of the toxic gas would be able to escape. Some diseases were also present in this war. Malaria has been the second largest cause of death after battle wounds. When they had wounded soldiers, back then they had to operate without anesthesia. The only thing that they were able to do was to put a towel in the patient 's mouth and hope for the best. Many people die because of the severe pain and extreme bleeding. Only about six thousand out of sixteen thousand survived the war due to the horrible conditions they were forced to live
