1. Is the current public education system in America standardized completely or in some capacity (think about the curriculum, content standards and state testing)? Explain why or why not.
Considering the fact that the law states clearly that each state can create its own standards for the people, I would be more tempted to say that the educational system in the United States is not standardized completely. It is true then when looking at the big picture, or when comparing the standards present in the American educational system and compare it to those present in various other countries in the world, they are at the same level, but on local level in the U.S., there is still a long way to go before one can say that it is completely standardized and sadly, this is in the detriment of the students themselves.
A completely standardized educational system would involve a standardized curriculum for each state, thus allowing the students in all American states to come in contact with all sorts of theories, ideas and works. Regardless whether the students enjoy learning or not about the theories, ideas or works about certain topics, certain topics should still be taught in all schools. This is evident in the “standards developed by individual states prior to the Common Core effort which often lacked the necessary rigor and consistency” (Koonce, 2015, p. 114). From the curriculum point of view, the American educational system is not standardized and there is still a long way to go…
