Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” is related to the McCarthy situation because in the Crucible a lot of the people thought there were witches in the town when there was not. This relates to the McCarthy situation because in McCarthy’s situation all over America they were worried about spy, Russian spies, Korean spies or just plain American spies. In both the book and in America people over reacted with this situation. For example how people over reacted, Walt Disney blamed his own co-workers of being communist when they weren't. Same thing in the book Abigail was blaming her own friends and family of being witches. In the Crucible Abigail threaten all her friends saying “Now look you. All of you. We danced. And Tituba conjured Ruth Putnam's dead sisters. And that is all. And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night, and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it; I saw Indians smash my dear parents' heads on the pillow next to mine, and I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down!”(26). The reason Arthur Miller wrote the Crucible because it was a great historical event to explain Americas situation. America was going through some hard times.just like in the Crucible a lot of fathoms was happening. The Crucible was written in 1953 as an allegory for McCarthyism or the so called Red Scare. Arthur felt many personal convictions to events that happened in his life. Wanting to point out to the world the amazing parallel between the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and the Red Scare from 1948-1956, Miller wrote the Crucible to make a powerful statement about the dangers of hysteria and dehumanization that can result because of this hysteria and frenzy. During McCarthyism, the United States was scared of Communism's influence. Like the witches, communists were seen within every aspect of society. These people included a number of actors playwrights. Arthur wrote the play as an allegory about how fear of communism and of witches obstructs justice in an hastily way.
