In 1989, most communist governments were turned into non-communist governments and the Berlin Wall was torn down reuniting families that had not seen each other in years. Ronald Reagan was the person who kept fighting for the wall to be taken down and he even has a famous speech where he says to the soviet leader to tear down the wall (Fund). These two things indicated that the Cold War was coming to an end (history.com). Even though the war ended with the breaking apart of the Soviet Union there are still countries to this day that are communists, such as China and North Korea (Williamson). People say that the United States won the Cold War because they were the ones standing in the end when the Soviet Union collapsed, but most people say that no one truly won. Though it seems as if this “war” was not important or significant in history, it is due to the fact that people were affected tremendously by the acts of two powerful countries. The United States and the Soviet Union affected many people 's lives all because they did not like each others political views and many innocent lives were lost over this petty feud. The two countries did not think of their consequences in the world and involved countries which did not need to be involved.
