Having a serious and sarcastic tone can really get their tone of annoyance. One of the first places this can be seen is right at the beginning. “...movement is arising...to scrub campuses clean of words…”. Using the scrub campuses has a harsh tone, implying that this is a very bad thing to do. Throughout the paper more sarcasm is seen through with “fragility of the collegiate psyche”. Each author is trying to express their point of coddling. Everyone thinks that we must protect the youth 's mind at all costs. While at the same time, that isn’t true and can actually hurt the student by not letting them experience the world for what it is. The sarcasm shows the author 's opinions on the hurt these new adults are facing, whether can see it or not. On the opposite side though, intellectual writing is also used to showcase the problem itself. After criticizing the parents, they take a look at why this might have happened. Near the end “The phenomenon may be related to recent changes in the interpretation of federal antidiscrimination statutes” is used to explain that things in the judicial system has changed. Giving a sense of reality to the reader can make it easier to connect. The topic of college is affecting many children today and will continue to affect for many generations. Highlighting the different classics is one way. Many students will read these in their career. The author wants to make a tie from the article to the mind of a reader, almost to make them think like a student again. Along with the classic motto “America, land of free”, the authors are laying out the topic that this crisis is a problem to all. It is not something that should be ignored or pushed back, such as our beautiful ideas for the country should get the same treatment. This issue needs to be addressed and followed through.
