In Arizona there are many people suffering from poverty. Meaning: the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions (Webster). The question people are probably wondering is, why is there so much poverty? For that question to be answered is to take a look at the causes and effects. Teenage pregnancy, lack of education, and substance abuse are issues that may contribute to poverty in Arizona. Throughout the country poverty is a huge issue; with Arizona ranking one of the highest in the country. Many of the poor live their life trying to survive. There are many people here in Arizona that is facing this problem. Due to lack of education. With no education it is hard to find a job. Also substance abuse is a major cause and teen pregnancy. With teen pregnancy poverty has become an issue for most people. A pregnant woman named Sophia is currently homeless here in Arizona. She holds a sign that says “homeless and pregnant”. Asking her if she needed anything and she just said; “water and bread”. Giving her the food and water that she needed I wanted to ask her some other questions. Such as, how did you get into this situation? Sophia stated; “I am only sixteen and I thought I was in love with my boyfriend one thing lead to another and now I am pregnant”. “My parents kicked me out as soon as I told them and as for my baby’s father he didn’t want anything to do with me”.
