Hearing a tragic story like what Alice went through can cause people around to feel sympathy for Alice. It was not a joyful thing so all people could really do was be sad. People didn’t want to ask Alice directly about the situation but didn’t have a problem talking about it with one another. Alice overheard people asking “Where is she?” “Raped…” “…see her face?” “She know him?” “…always weird…” (Sebold 27). Alice was numb to a lot of the situation, not that she forgot but all the shocking things no longer shocked her. When situations become public, they will always be a topic of discussion, especially in a school environment. People are affected because of Alice’s situation because it is a terrifying situation for someone to ever deal with and will never forget. As a community, people wish there was a way to stop it and save those in possible danger.
At the end of the day, life is full of tragedy and tragedy cause more than the victim to feel pain and hurt. No one would ever wish rape on someone they care about.
