The topic that I am interested in is Data Mining. This is interesting to me because it can help in various areas of society. This includes the medical field, elderly care, and commerce. This is controversial because of the amount and type of personal data that is being collected. We are living in the “Big Data” era where there are many ways to collect data. It could be from your watch, phone, light bulbs or your car. Even your television collects data. I will explain and define the usage of data mining in these three areas. The fullness of benefits that this topic, Data Mining, has to offer has not been truly achieved. New technologies are around the corner, namely Data Stream Mining. Although data mining has the ability to express data collected in a field in a way that can be beneficial. Some of the fruits of this labor are used for diagnosing patients, helping the elderly live independently and make commerce more profitable and efficient. The negative side is the acts of collecting personal health information, constant monitoring of people and extra taxes that are imposed. With our ability to collect more biometrics, data that define a person, future use of Data Mining will help our global fight against terrorism. Working as a medical technologist, the laboratory generates enormous amount of personal health information on patients to help aid their doctors. Using Data Mining techniques, patterns are being discovered to help the diagnosis or prognosis of diseases. Some techniques are being employed to monitor drug efficacy and recognize interference from supplements taking in conjunction with medications. In China, genetic algorithm techniques are being used to aid in fighting the disease of Alzheimer 's (Zhang,Y. 2016). This same article describes using artificial neural network to develop a heart rate classification algorithm that is highly consistent with heart disease experts (Zhang, Y. 2016). Will people in America allow sharing of their personal health information to help others? As more people are approaching their golden years, certain events can be very detrimental even death if not quickly acted upon. In an independent senior, the fall is the worst event that can occur. They are alone, might lose consciousness, and difficult to call for help. With more people becoming elderly and society is lacking in providing senior care, new technologies are being used to help this growing problem. They are collecting data on activities of the elderly and using techniques to distinguish a fall from other normal activities like sitting, walking, lying, and standing.
