The Articles of Confederation could be referred to as the simplest form of the U.S Constitution. The Articles of Confederation came after America’s Declaration of Independence. Now that the nation was free, they needed to decide on what kind of country they wanted to be and how to govern it. The Articles of Confederation was formed to do just so (History.com). The Continental Congress used the Confederation to try to unite the colonies. They knew they needed a strong government but, not one too strong because they just broke free from a powerful government (History.com). As a result, they created the confederation of states. Anything going on outside the states pertained the to government, but the delegates could decide what happened in their states. However, the Articles of Confederation proved to not be weak, even the delegated never showed up to vote (History.com). Due to the frail government, farmers didn’t want to pay back their debts resulting in the unveiling of Shay’s Rebellion. As a result led to the ratification of the Articles of Confederation in 1781 (History.com). When America became free from Britain in 1783, The Confederates knew they needed a strong central government, and the delegates attended the Confederate Convention. At this convention, they began amending the Confederation giving birth to the U.S. Constitution. The U.S Constitution is basically a revised Articles of Confederation.
