Jacques-Yves Cousteau once said, “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” Cousteau was born on June 11, 1910, in Saint-André-de-Cubzac. He became a member of the naval academy in 1930. He graduated and became a gunnery officer. But, as he was training to be a pilot, a serious car accident caused him to be unable to fly. So it was the ocean that caught his eye. In 1936, he went swimming. It was a breath-taking revelation that affected his future. Cousteau created the aqualung, innovated it and took responsible risks to overcome all of his challenges, and illuminated the world by brightening its view on the ocean.

“Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau left his mark forever on the planet and the oceans”(Captain, 2015). Without Cousteau's invention, then we wouldn’t have known half as much about the oceans as we do today. “The French marine explorer, inventor, filmmaker. and conservationist sailed the world for much of the late 20th century, educating millions about the Earth’s oceans and its inhabitants-and inspiring there protection”(Than, 2010). His sons and grandsons are part of the Cousteau Society, working to continue Cousteau’s unfinished work. So we might not be all-knowing on the ocean, but we are working our way there, all thanks to Jacques Cousteau. Cousteau said, “If we were logical, the future would be bleak, indeed. But we are more than logical. We are human beings, and we have faith, and we have hope, and we can work.” Cousteau created the aqua-lung because he thought something was missing. He innovated the aqua-lung to get rid of the small problems. He illuminated the world by showing the aqua-lung and introducing something new. Jacques Cousteau worked, tweaked, and presented, and it affected the world

Liminal Shores, Agential Oceans After being reminded of Hayao Miyazaki’s film Ponyo in Mel Y. Chen’s Animacies, I became interested in the liminal or transitional properties of the seashore in Ponyo and A Tale for the Time Being. At the beginning of Ponyo, a young boy named Sōsuke finds the titular character as a fish trapped in a glass jar near the seashore. He breaks her free, slightly cutting himself, and Ponyo licks his cut and begins her transmogrification from fish into chicken, into little human girl. Chen argues that, “The fish/chicken/little girl is far from a binary logic; she is a blending that is partial and contingent and enacted across time”…

Henry David Thoreau, an American philospher and naturalist once stated that "The price of anything is the amount of time you exchange for it. " I have to say that I agree with Thoreau's statement and I have proof to show you why. Let's take the work enviroment for example. If you have a job where you get paid by the hour, you can get paid for doing overtime. Depending on how much extra time you put in, the cost measures.…

1.) Thoreau’s journals, within “American Earth” by Al Gore, consolidates numerous themes and materials revolving around environmental writings. Sequentially he starts out contemplating that even after one dies they will live on through nature. He then continues to elaborate on the beauty of nature and how humans take it for granted. This is evident when he’s describing men that have grown ignorant to sounds of nature, “silence audible,” as he calls it.…

Influence on Nature Nature is all around us. How people choose to treat the nature is up to them, as well as how they choose to perceive it. Jung's idea of the shadow refers to the dark side of human personality. The shadow is in the deepest place of our inner mind, which is also part of the unconsciousness. Jean Cocteau's film Beauty and the Beast reveals that, in fact, Belle is the opposite to the beast. In my opinion, the reason why Belle did not accept beast's proposal is the ugliness of the beast, although the beast is kind. At the end of the story, Belle bring her shadow into the daylight world by admitting her love for the beast, because she has accepted the beast, which is her own shadow.…

The way we neglect our ocean with heavy amounts of pollution can potentially affect our lives in a negative manner. Driving cars and the use of plastic is essential to our daily lives, but we use them without the concern for how they are affecting the habitats on Earth. Some people think that the chance that they are doing harm to the ocean is less important to them than cost or inconvenience of fixing a pollution problem. Through sources from researchers and scientists, they have found evidence of pollution caused by the two essential commodities in our lives, plastic and burning fossil fuels. Environmentalists have found solutions to reduce the plastic waste in our ocean as well as attempting to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere…
