Some only have the clothes on their backs while others have only a small amount of belongings. Begging for money to help them afford things such as food, shelter, and clothes, is a daily thing for most homeless children. They are not able to go to the supermarket and buy food or walk to their fridge and pour themselves a glass of water. They have to rely on their surroundings to survive. Additionally, the text states, “They get sick frequently have a hard time in school, and […] tend to feel a deep sense of shame and isolation from their classmates” (Lewis 6-7). Getting to go to school is a dream come true for most homeless children, but like any dream it comes at a cost. For the few homeless children that get to go to school, they struggle to finish their homework on time and do not get the help from their teachers they need.
