There are a few different impacts that terrorism can have on the mission of the police department in the United States. One impact that terrorism has on the mission of the Police Department that it has to surrender all authority to the Federal Government. The Federal Government will become the primary agency in charge of the scene of the crime and the local department will have no say so in the matter. Two examples of the Federal Government taking over scenes where terrorism has happened is the attack on 9/11 and the bombings in Boston Massachusetts during the Boston Marathon. One of the disagreements is that the Federal Government feels they have the best equipment and the resources to track these down terrorist and to neutralize all terrorist threats. Another argument that the local departments have is that they feel that when the federal government becomes involved that the local department won't receive the credit or the praise for the information that they gathered and for the progress they made on the case.
