In the 1800s, alcoholism and excessive drinking among men became a large issue that had to be resolved. When women began the temperance movement, they felt a voice spark within them. Once women realized they made a change, it changed their hopeless mindset and encouraged them to use that newfound voice for egalitarianism. Additionally, the temperance movement impacted the United States because alcoholism impacted families and households both physically and financially. When women perceived this as an issue, they sought to solve it. Women gained the power to change as displayed in Temperance Document F. This source illustrates how the consumption of alcoholic drinks drastically decreased after the movement. While solving this issue, they found a power that they later used in the Cult of Domesticity in which they sought equality. The Cult of Domesticity impacted the future of women’s rights in the United States. It became one step closer to complete equality to men. Certain genders would no longer be superior. Once women found a voice, they never ceased to stand up against
