The Images of women presented in the visual documents, “Television’s Prescription for Women” is not an accurate image of the American Women. It is an advertisement, the television portrays women how they want them to be. They emphasized the role of a woman housewives and the consumer’s goods that could be used to make that possible. The desire for TV was at the time the consumer culture on a rise (574). One of the purposes of television was to bring families together which would stabilize the home. Many advertisements in the magazine were published to help encourage women to buy a television because it would help with the improvement of their home (575). One of their focus is that mothers of young children should or should not work. Therefore, a forum was assembled to discuss this issues. In the discussion, they had spoken from each perspective (590). Few of women believe mothers should stay at home with the children because they learn a thing from their mothers that they cannot learn anywhere else (593). There seems to be a general agreement that mothers of small children should work at home, but the question was raise by Miss Joan Younger who is the Ladies’ Home Journal Editor, and the question is who is going to pay the bills for the mothers who have no choice but to work or they would starve? (593). Some working mothers express that they were working for a long period, and their children grew fine. They do not have problems with a working mother, instead, they actually learned something worth learning (593). They learned a set of values that they would not learn with a stay at home mother.
