Introduction
It has been discussed since the end of 20th century that the mothers in employment and at home have different attitudes towards to motherhood and work. Two articles which I would like to pick up are describing this debates as well. One article is written by Paula K. McDonald, Lisa M. Bradley, and Diane Guthrie in 2005. Another one is authored by Gillian Marks and Diane M. Houston in 2002. Both of them are type of social science research and have similar central argument. The argument by McDonald et al has more influence to change what the reader think and believe than the article by Marks and Houston. How is the difference of persuasiveness generated between similar arguments? The aim of my argument is rhetorical analysis of the two arguments to determine what creates the difference in rhetorical force between the two arguments. This argument is valuable for the reader who have special interest in the study of rhetoric because this research will reveal how the arrangement of argument have impact to convince the audience. The argument by McDonald et al has more effective rhetorical force than one by Marks and Houston because it produces rhetorical appeals by arranging classical oration. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the argument by McDonald et al, I will divide some parts of my argument. First, I will describe the explanation of the significance in Partition. Their arrangement of classical oration leads to effective appeal to the audience. However, there is a critical view toward to the classical oration in science. Czarniawska claimed that the classical oration in Greek rhetoric is a simply list of these events in order. Therefore, it is not enough to persuade the reader (2004, 128). However, the using classical oration effectively by arranging leads to persuade the target of the audience. According to Gross, style and organization as rhetorical arrangement of classical oration in science have an important effect, and technical writing become the persuasive version of experience (1991, 933).
