Introduction
The brain is a like a spider-web; it is hypersensitive, delicate, minimal, and connects to many things in the body. It responds instantly and almost simultaneously to outside events, but scientists are still doing research on the brain because they have yet to have a full understanding of it. In “This is Your Brain on Mindfulness”, by Michael Baime, who is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, is based on research to find if meditation changes the structure of the brain, if it aides attentional performance, and the way the practice of meditation affects helps people have different experiences because of two different parts of the brain.

In the article, the author points out three ways meditation is affecting the brain. The first way is that meditation changes the structure of the brain. He used Sara Lazar, who is a Harvard neuroscientist, and her experiment of images from an MRI of twenty meditators brains versus images of twenty nonmeditators brains. By wanting to be a nurse, it is important to be able to focus and make decisions without hesitation. This knowledge is useful to know because meditation could help with these factors. In the article, the author stated how in an experiment, medical and nursing students who meditated for eight weeks were able to be aware and focus their attention much better than those who did not meditate. It also showed results that the meditators had a better short-term memory as well as the ability to resist distraction.
