The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change

In order to succeed at reaching goals, one must be effective and change from within, this is what Covey wants to portray in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. There are several books that discuss effectiveness; however, this book in specific is not only giving you tips on how to be more efficient at work, but also in other aspects of your life. The importance of this books lies in the fact that even though a lot of people succeed in life, they still find themselves struggling with personal effectiveness and relationships with others. In order to achieve our goals, we need to learn how to prioritize and manage ourselves. One of the most important things to get out of this chapter is that we need to do what is most important first and not what is more immediate or urgent. Habit 2 talked about how to set our goals and figure out our vision; however, this chapter is all about executing and getting to accomplish those goals. It is important to mention that in order to reach our goals, we need to have willpower and discipline in order to stay on track.
Covey then went on to explain his theory about quadrants and how that can help us prioritize what is important and what we need to do first. I believe that the table on page 151 is really important and can help us understand and set our priorities in our schedule. “The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule but schedule your priorities” this is what Covey wants to transmit in this chapter and make us understand that we should focus on results and relationships first and secondary focus on

In order to understand what Covey wants to convey in this chapter, it is important to understand what synergize means, this is when one cooperates with another or others to reach a goal. It is important to understand that in order to synergize we need to put in practice what Covey taught us in the previous chapters. One of the things synergy does is that it allows us to come up with new alternatives and solutions and opens our minds to new possibilities. Even though synergy might just seem as another technique to work well with groups, it is essential that we try to understand other’s perspectives so that we can see new possibilities. For example, if there is a problem in the company and everybody sees it from the same perspective, the solution that will come up might not be the best one. However, if somebody thinks differently and states their opinion and others listen and understand this person’s perspective, the problem can easily be solved.
