In order to succeed at reaching goals, one must be effective and change from within, this is what Covey wants to portray in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. There are several books that discuss effectiveness; however, this book in specific is not only giving you tips on how to be more efficient at work, but also in other aspects of your life. As the tile of the chapter says it, the fifth habit is to learn how to understand others and then be able to express and explain ourselves so that we are understood. One of the biggest parts of understanding others and to do that, one has to learn how to listen first. Covey concludes that in order to understand others, there is a need to understand the person and their perspective through emphatic listening. By listening empathetically, one can improve their communication skills and several problems can be avoided.
The second part of this chapter is about helping others understand us. It is important that we learn how to convey our ideas and present them in a way that can be understood by others. Once we learn how to make other people understand us, the credibility of our ideas increases and communication

This last chapter is all about our greatest asset, ourselves. Covey dedicates a whole chapter to talk about how there is a big importance on taking care of ourselves in all of the different dimension of our nature. This last habit is focused on renewal, and taking time to dedicate it to ourselves and become better persons. Covey concludes that the most important thing is to take care of our four dimensions which are: physical, spiritual, mental and social/emotional dimensions. It is important that we take time aside and focus on each one of this dimensions.
