People like Maya Angelou have grown up with difficult family lives. She was born in Arkansas in a time of severe racial discrimination. She dropped out of highschool when she was 14 and was also a teenage single parent (mayaangelou.com). She used what she had gone through as a child and made choices reflecting that to inspire people all around the world. Since that difficult time, the society she grew up with affected her to write many books about her experience and try to inspire those going to the same situation. Even though she was affected in a positive way, some people get affected in negative ways like Whitney Houston. This is a common case for many celebrities that either can’t handle the fame, or they don’t want to lose it. She started abusing drugs and had a difficult marriage life. She had a lot of turmoil inside while her whole society kept expecting so much from her (biography.com). Relating this to The Lord of the Flies, fame could be compared to power. Her society was everyone around her and she didn’t want to lose that authority or good name she had over them. They all were feeding her the power and she just didn’t know how to react to it. This lead to her death in 2012. Another example would be Adolf Hitler. Hitler was the leader of the Nazis and caused a lot of trouble to the Jews (jewishvirtuallibrary.com). Him and Jack are alike because they don’t really think that any damage is being done through their actions. At this point they have already established their authority over the society. So first the society influences them and chooses them, then once they have everyone and all this power, the lock them in. Now these people are afraid of the person that they initially chose. Adolf Hitler’s followers were afraid to say no and when nobody would say no, he thought what he was doing was right. What if everyone in Germany got together and overthrew him? It could have been done that
