A house is a symbol of a home and comfort. However, it’s also composes of constraining walls inside of other walls, that can become a barrier to the outside world. The short story “The Story of An Hour” by Kate Chopin, hints about Mrs. Mallard’s celebration for freedom after the news of her husband’s death, and her sudden death on seeing her husband again. Did she die because she was overjoyed or was it fear of living in bondage? Story of An Hour tells a story about a middle aged woman who claims to be in love with her husband but is trapped in a unhappy marriage. Mrs. Mallard was notified by her sister and her husband’s friend that her husband has been killed in a ghastly train wreck. The window separates the real world where people are breathing independence, for Mrs. Mallard her own room where she confines in between her walls. So even though she yearns to be a part of that outside world, her experience won’t let her yet.
While Mrs. Mallard is still staring out the window she notice the rainy clouds which are forming. This symbolizes foreshadowing and tells the reader that something is about to happen.
The Story of An Hour by Chopin, she states “But she felt it, creeping out of the sky, reaching toward her through the sounds, the scents, the color that filled the air.” This could be interpreted as her fear reflected on the view. Which is supposed to be perfect, Except the grey clouds. Mrs. Mallad sister then come to get her sister out of her room and brings her back to the living room. Mr. Mallard appears at the front door unexpectedly blocking the only way for Mrs. Mallard way to get out of the house as though his appearance is an obstacle for Mrs.
