Standard 7: The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.


The purpose of standard 7 is to insure that the educator is employing the various schools of thought when creating lesson plans and activities for his/her various classes. This includes taking into account the student’s various learning styles as well as their socioeconomic status when creating meaningful lessons. Like standard 1 was all about the learner, this standard is focused on insuring that the teacher takes all that information into account when further creating a plan for their education. This is an important standard to take into account as a preservice teacher due to the fact that all lesson plans that we have created might not fit to every class. It is important that we take stock of the students we are educating and fit the plans to what they need to learn.


The artifact that I created for this standard is based around the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. We would have just finished reading the novel as a class and have been continuously discussing the historical and social elements present.
