Being a teacher is the without doubt the hardest work I have ever done, but no other type of job has ever given me as much satisfaction. Helping my students to comprehend the science behind this world we live in and watching their critical thinking skills grow warms my heart. I think teachers play a critical role in society in these rapidly changings times, a basic comprehension of scientific method is crucial to the development of an informed citizenry. Finally, I enjoy being around young people and watching them develop and grow.

I believe the biggest hurdle to connecting with secondary level students is getting them interested in the lesson’s learning objectives, to do this I want to know as much as possible about them in order to attempt to relate their lives to the subject matter.

I think it’s critical to make connections with my students, so I want to know about their goals in life, their hobbies, and what they are interested in.
What do you need to know in order to begin your lesson planning for a class?
It starts with the curriculum based on the state learning standards, from these we derive our objectives for each unit, and then finally each unit objective is broken down into individual lesson goals. Planning each lesson requires examining these goals, preparing learning activities around them, and a method of assessing student understanding. Then developing an introduction and flow for the instructional activities, keeping in mind the amount of class time and materials
