In Sociology there are three different perspectives used to explain social issues. These are the structural functional approach, the symbolic interactional approach and the conflict approach. In this essay only two perspectives are going to be use to explain the social issue of teenage pregnancy and they are the structural functional and conflict approaches.

It is said that teens from poorer families are more likely to get pregnant than those from rich families because these teenage girls try to support their family and end up in jobs that involves sexual relations, or they might not have the opportunities of education that rich families have. Teenage pregnancy can cause conflict between parents and child also religious groups. Teens have sex and might get pregnant as a way of being rebellious against their parents who they feel that do not give them the attention that they need. So parent when they find out that their daughter is pregnant or that their son has made a girl pregnant kick their child out of the house or make them get an abortion because they might not be able to support their and the baby or that in society teenage pregnancy is seen as wrong and they do not want their family to have a bad name. Teenage pregnancy also causes conflict with religion. A child growing up in a religious family or went to a religious school is usually taught to abstain from sex before marriage. In religion teenage pregnancy is a negative thing which forms conflict between both the church and the teenage mother who is a part of
