Social Injustice in America: Racial Profiling
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America ” – Preamble from US Constitution
Our “Founding Fathers” created many goals for our country such as, first, to not die off like Roanoke and, second, to establish justice for everyone who walks on the land. Obviously, there was a miscommunication because, at the time, they meant justice for old white men only. Unfortunately, it has been harder than expected to fulfill the second goal because, in this day in age, Social Injustice is still being brought to light daily. What exactly is Social Injustice? Social Injustice can be defined as a situation in which unfair practices are being carried in society. Understanding this is crucial to become aware of the oppression here in the United States, especially amongst people of color. It is clear that America has had racial issues in the past. Africans, Blacks and anyone with a darker complexion has dealt with oppression for over 300 years. For example, the enslavement of Africans took place from 1619-1865 until the 13th amendment provided them with freedom.
