The ant colony, in the movie A Bugs Life is made of several social groups, consisting of: primary groups, in-groups, and reference groups. These groups are easily distinguishable in the movie. The Ant colony is the main character, Flik’s family and is his primary group in the film. Primary groups consist of people that you have an intimate connection and face-to-face contact with. Typically, family is our first primary group. Later in life our primary groups change to our piers. Inside the ant colony there are also in-groups. An in-group is a social group within the society which a person feels loyalty to, and identifies as a member. Flik feels loyalty to Princess Atta, and has a desire to please regardless of her reciprocation, or gratitude
